Donato Academy Hosts Workshop for Grade 12 Students

The Donato Academy facilitated  a workshop for students of the Peel-Dufferin Catholic District School Cosmetology programs. The purpose of the workshop was to provide these grade 12 students with a further understanding of the Cosmetology industry.

The workshop was held on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 – the snowiest day of 2016 in the GTA! Despite the crazy blizzard, all were in attendance for this fun-filled, action-packed day! The focus of the workshop was up-do styling; both classic and avant-guard styles as well as an introduction to many other career paths Cosmetology can lead you to.

The students were mentored by the Donato Academy Educators and the Donato Salon and Spa stylists. They had the opportunity to work on the salon floor in the middle of all the action at the Square One Shopping Centre location!

The students were taught six basic steps to creating a successful updo:DPCDSBJan12 1

  1. Have a plan, idea or goal
  2. Section/block the hair
  3. Set the hair
  4. Create a foundation
  5. Secure the hair
  6. Finish/polish the style

The results were amazing! Our own staff and students were overwhelmed by the talent these young people possessed. Here’s what a couple of the attendees had to say after the workshop:

“My student Julia was thrilled with the day and said that she felt Donato was very organized, loved the facilities, was particularly impressed with the square footage and felt the Up style package would be very useful in providing tips for Skills. She smiled from ear to ear when she spoke of the people she met; teachers, Donato staff and peers. Her older brother is a Stylist and he was envious of her experience.”

“I really enjoyed the day. The experience really helped me understand the environment of a salon. Also, I learned new techniques for up-dos which will help me a lot in the Skills competition.”

~Alizah Hussain, Student from Philip Pocock

It was a pleasure to share some of our knowledge with these young, aspiring hairstyling students. The future of our industry lies within these individuals and it is important that we show them what wonderful opportunities this incredible industry has to offer!
